The sublime idiocy of suprematism in the terminal age
Decadence of the frigid utopia of Cyber-culture - Thirty years after the Declaration of Independence of the Cyberspace

____________
In 1996, John Perry Barlow launched the Declaration of the Independence of Cyberspace.
“Governments of the Industrial World, you weary giants of flesh and steel, I come from Cyberspace, the new home of Mind. On behalf of the future, I ask you of the past to leave us alone. You are not welcome among us. You have no sovereignty where we gather.”

It was a display of libertarian boldness against nation-states in the name of a superior universality of knowledge. And it was also a display of neoliberal arrogance.
The globalism of market and knowledge was promising, but it harbored the poisonous fruits that are ripe today.
In that era of cyber-optimism, we shouted to the political rulers of the world: “we have created the space of the global network and we do not want you on our soil.”
In that decade, the virtual class, heir to twentieth-century science and in some ways heir to the libertarian energy of the global 1968 movement, projected itself onto the scene as a young, erotic body, capable of innovation useful to social life and communication.
Thirty years later, we are sadly obliged to read the Techno-Republican twenty-two-point manifesto, written by the depressing minds of Alex Karp and Nicholas Zamiska.
White nationalism, aggressive supremacy, the cult of the destructive power of technology. Promises of war.
The claim of white racial superiority is pathetic, but also terribly dangerous, because it claims the right to exterminate the unter menschen while recognizing the need to submit knowledge to the Nation and to hand over the decision on nuclear weapons to the only one child of ours that is not suffering from depressive psychosis: the Intelligent Automaton.
Behind the supremacist arrogance, we can glimpse the decrepitude of the white body frozen in the ice of mathematics.
We can glimpse the desperation of the West, no longer capable of governing chaos and the uncontrolled proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
The desperate gesticulation of the Super-Loser POTUS is the clearest proof of the tragic labyrinth in which the supremacist mind has trapped itself.
The planet, irreversibly devastated by the effects of climate change, now falters on the brink of terminal hyper-conflict.
The white brainrot is no longer capable of operating the Terminal machine, nor of ensuring control over atomic overkill.
The only thing it can do is hand over the levers of overkill to its super-Intelligent automatic heir, hoping it will guarantee us victory. But unfortunately, even the Unter menschen possess overkilling weapons, and even the Unter Menschen (especially those little treacherous Chinese) possess the Intelligent Automaton, and they recently showed up an army of warrior robots in whose presence Mr. Alex Karp would do well to behave in a more humble manner.
But I fear he won’t, for the harm of everyone.
Over the course of the last thirty years, demography played a cruel trick on the self appointed superior race.
The second half of the twentieth century saw an unprecedented demographic leap, accompanied by advances in medical science.
The generation that emerged in the post-war thirty years (my generation) enjoyed the best diet of all time, was cultured, refined, reasonably happy, or at least hopeful, and believed that peace and perhaps even socialism were possible.
But at the turn of the century, the demographic curve reversed, and the triumph of medical science allowed a vast army of old people to invade the historical scene: arrogant, petulant, aggressive, and incapable of understanding the implications of their own exhaustion, as the have grown up in a cultural world where old age and death were unmentionable and banned.
Neither the ruling class’s advertising ideology nor Marxist-inspired critical thought has attempted to come to terms with this reversal of perspective, this decay of the collective body. Nobody has been able to cure or prevent the sadness of the collective mind, not only the the elderly’s mind, but even more markedly of the new generations, depressed by the burden of an increasingly senile future. As we have not reflected on old age and death, we now find ourselves helpless in the face of rampant senile dementia.
The Nazi Manifesto by Mr. Alex Karp and his companion should be read first and foremost as a declaration of the furious decadence of a culture that is unable to deal with its own senescence.
This pathetic manifesto seeks to reinvigorate the warrior mind of the dominant race by purging it of all compassion.
Point ten warns that “The psychologization of modern politics is leading us astray. Those who look to the political arena to nourish their soul and sense of self, who rely too heavily on their internal life finding expression in people they may never meet, will be left disappointed.”
If modern civilization had produced anything good, alongside the violent dominance of Western colonialism, it was that glimmer of universalism that, in its Kantian and Marxist variants, attempted to envision the possibility of peace.
The intrepid Karp (and his faithful squire Nicholas Zamiska) think that by putting on a mean face they will strike terror into the Unter Menschen.
But the Persian Unter Menschen don’t seem to be that scared, while the Chinese Unter Menschen are viciously laughing while observing the collapse of the American mind.
Point 5 warns against any limitations (ethical, or simply human) on the exercise of armed force (and of the Murderous Artificial Intelligence): “our adversaries will waste no time debating the merits of technologies, they will proceed.”
This is probably the most dangerous point of the Manifesto, because it describes an undeniable reality: in competitive conditions, the worst is guaranteed.
Remember the glorious times of youthful, rampant neoliberalism, when John Perry Barlow wrote that bold declaration?
Back then, we have been told that everything had to be submitted to the market and to economic profit. Schools, healthcare and every other service, was to respond to the market rationale, because the economic competition improves performance and guarantees the highest quality for service users.
That was false, and today we know that the social conditions have enormously deteriorated since profit became the dominant criteria.
But if economic competition has caused a social disaster, military competition will cause the final disaster, destruction of human civilization.
Some politicians argue that we can prevent Artificial Intelligence from causing devastating effects as we can codify ethical rules capable of keeping the Automaton from strangling us.
Really?
Such codification would be possible if we were in conditions of peace and universal friendship.
But we have instead entered the era of aggressive nationalism. How can we expect our enemies to behave well if we have declared that we will certainly behave terribly?
In every competitive regime, there is something we cannot know: the strategies of our competitor, of our enemy.
But the very fact that we cannot know leads us to do what our knowledge allows us to do: everything it allows us to do, without limitations. Otherwise, the enemy could proceed and do what we have renounced. Therefore, we cannot afford not to realize everything our knowledge allows us to achieve, regardless of whether it is destructive, or rather, precisely because it is.
Therefore, no devastation of which our knowledge is capable will be spared us.
That is why I am convinced that the twenty-first century is the terminal century.
There’s another consideration to make: we cannot know whether what exposes us to danger (even extreme danger) contains the conditions of a higher order, a mathematical order finally freed from the imperfection that is conscious life.
The Automaton knows this. Therefore, it is determined to erase the imperfection that we are.
Is this the reason why we have built it?
